“You don’t wanna get mixed up with a guy like me.”

glyphRoller derby name: Glyph Huckster

Roller derby position – on the track: Usually standing behind turn 4, because that’s where I can see the numbers and the lineup for the jam!

Roller derby position – off the track: Announcer. Because that’s what I love to do.

How long have you been announcing roller derby bouts for GRR? For 2 years, and hope to do it for 20 more.

How did you come up with your name and number? Since I already have the name Glyph I didn’t want to confuse the situation any more. And Huckster just seemed like a nice fit for an announcer persona.

Do you have any pre- or post-bout rituals? I spend way too much time picking out a suit before the bout. And of course the after-party is a must!

What is your favorite thing about announcing roller derby bouts for GRR? Roller derby is one of the fastest sports around, and it really keeps me on my toes when big plays happen or something out of the ordinary occurs and I have to help the crowd understand the rules. It’s the constant interaction with the fans and the players that keeps me coming back.

What is your most memorable GRR roller derby experience? The trip to Birmingham to announce the bout against Tragic City [Rollers]. It’s always awesome to announce with others, but it was particularly fun in such a hostile enviroment.

If your roller derby alter-ego had a theme song, what would it be? “Soul Man” by The Blues Brothers

Aside from roller derby, what are you passionate about? Gainesville music, trivia, gaming, hanging out in the most amazing city ever

What would GRR fans be surprised to know about you? My day job as a computer programmer might raise some eyebrows. (Note: Glyph is also the man behind www.GainesvilleBands.com.)

What makes you a Rebel? “There’s a lotta things about me you don’t know anything about, Dottie. Things you wouldn’t understand. Things you couldn’t understand. Things you shouldn’t understand. You don’t wanna get mixed up with a guy like me. I’m a loner, Dottie. A rebel.”

Likes: Roller derby, music, World of Warcraft, trivia, puzzles, bicycles, Gainesville

Dislikes: Stupid people, coconut, eggnog

Guilty pleasures: Katy Perry, 70s soft rock, old school video games
