Get fit. Join GRR!

GRR was featured as part of The Gainesville Sun’s “Five fun ways to get fit” article, which ran on Saturday, Sept. 19.

“When people think roller derby, they think it’s entertainment. But it is a sport with rules and penalties. It’s not a free-for-all out there; there is game play, and it takes a lot of practice,” said Catherine “Ms. Rebel” Seemann.

Roller derby, which Seemann compared to roller hockey, women’s rugby or soccer, is an extreme cardiovascular workout combined with intricate footwork and a fast pace.

“We accept anybody who’s willing to put in the practice, time and commitment to the league,” she said. “Whether you’re not athletic or haven’t played a team sport before, you’ve got that competitive streak in you, you just haven’t found it yet.”
