ACT has been working since 1988 to protect, conserve and celebrate North Central Florida. Their work encompasses more than simply putting conservation easements on private property and directly purchasing natural lands. By facilitating land purchases with municipal governments and local partners, engaging with our community through environmental education programs, and finding innovative ways for people to explore wild spaces, ACT continues to be a leader in the fight for conservation. From sea turtle habitat on the coast, to fire-based longleaf pine flatwoods, to our local rivers and waterways, ACT dedicates each day to protecting and conserving land for current and future generations.
The raffle prizes for today’s game are:
DERBY 101
So how is
roller derby played?
There are two 30-minute periods in a game, and each jam is two minutes long. At the start of the jam, each team sends out five skaters: four blockers and a jammer.
The jammer wears a star on their helmet. The jammers try to get past the opposing team’s blockers, and the blockers try their best to stop the jammer from passing them.
After the jammer passes all of the blockers once, they start earning one point for each opposing blocker they pass. The first jammer to get out becomes the “lead jammer” and they have the power to call off the jam.
