FEATURED CHARITY
Raffle proceeds from tonight's bout go to Gainesville Rabbit Rescue.
Gainesville Rabbit Rescue is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1998 by 2 University of Florida students. GRR’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt out rabbits to loving homes, as well as educate current and potential rabbit owners. GRR does not turn away any rabbit regardless of disability, illness, age, or temperament. Rescued rabbits are nursed back to optimum health and spayed/neutered before being placed up for adoption. The organization’s main goal is to see that the right rabbit is placed with the right family, so GRR screens all adoptive families to ensure the rabbit is placed in a secure and loving home. Along with our main facility, GRR rabbits live in foster homes with dedicated volunteers. This allows us to ensure they are litter box trained, well fed, and well cared for. Currently Gainesville Rabbit Rescue has 90+ rabbits in its care, and has an ever growing waiting list. Want to join the team? Visit our “Other Ways to Help” Page to find out how you can make a difference in the lives of rescued bunnies in your area.
In tonight’s raffle, win entry for up to 4 people to Bragging Rights, where you and your friends can play hundreds of classic and modern arcade games, pinball, and carnival games! Unlimited play for each entry ticket.
DERBY 101
So how is roller derby played?
There are two 30-minute periods in a game, and each jam is two minutes long. At the start of the jam, each team sends out five skaters: four blockers and a jammer. The jammer wears a star on their helmet. The jammers try to get past the opposing team’s blockers, and the blockers try their best to stop the jammer from passing them. After the jammer passes all of the blockers once, they start earning one point for each opposing blocker they pass. The first jammer to get out becomes the “lead jammer” and they have the power to call off the jam.
