The Human Rights Coalition of Alachua County (HRC) was formed in 2017 as a group of community activists and organizers who were committed to local, tangible solutions to creating immigrant safety. Since merging with the RWHP in July 2024, the social justice division focuses on strengthening communities’ capacity to overcome social justice barriers through legal and know-your-rights education workshops, accompaniment and tangible services, such as the HRC Community ID and legal navigation services. This division provides immigrants in North Central Florida with the knowledge and resources they need to assert their rights, access opportunities, and navigate systems effectively.

DERBY 101
So how is
roller derby played?
There are two 30-minute periods in a game, and each jam is two minutes long. At the start of the jam, each team sends out five skaters: four blockers and a jammer.
The jammer wears a star on their helmet. The jammers try to get past the opposing team’s blockers, and the blockers try their best to stop the jammer from passing them.
After the jammer passes all of the blockers once, they start earning one point for each opposing blocker they pass. The first jammer to get out becomes the “lead jammer” and they have the power to call off the jam.
